Be the living expression of God&#8217;s kindness: kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile. ~ Mother Theresa<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/heart-pebbles1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-216 aligncenter\" title=\"heart pebbles\" src=\"http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/heart-pebbles1-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"117\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/heart-pebbles1-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/heart-pebbles1-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/heart-pebbles1.jpg 495w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 117px) 100vw, 117px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was a stunning day and she was glad she\u2019d made the effort to get out of the\u00a0cottage and take the short walk along the beach\u00a0that brought her predictably to her beloved\u00a0Golly Gosh with its heart shaped pebbles.<\/p>\n<p>She sat in her usual spot watching Sally and Alice bustle about making everyone feel welcome.\u00a0 She&#8217;d come to recognise that people became friends here.<\/p>\n<p>My it was bright; almost too\u00a0warm\u00a0and she\u00a0wished she&#8217;d ordered a cool drink instead of her usual Earl Grey.\u00a0 There was always time.\u00a0 This was progress.<\/p>\n<p>She squinted her eyes as the glare bounced off the big wide open shuttered windows and streamed into the room.\u00a0 She followed\u00a0it as\u00a0it came to rest on the silver heads of two older ladies out for their regular\u00a0Sunday\u00a0afternoon tea. After church perhaps?\u00a0 She&#8217;d seen them often and they&#8217;d always been kind enough to acknowledged her but intentionally didn\u2019t pursue conversation, somehow sensing her awkwardness.\u00a0\u00a0As one shielded her eyes the other relaxed as the\u00a0warmth\u00a0spread over her back; maybe today she&#8217;d take her cardi off.\u00a0 They listened intently to one another\u00a0the way only old friends can before throwing their heads back and roaring with laughter; glasses off and wiping sparkly eyes. \u00a0 It warmed her heart to watch and one couldn&#8217;t \u00a0help but wonder what their younger versions were like.\u00a0 They reminded her of her mother.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly the presence of happier times flooded her memory: sunshine and laughter and driving in the car with the hood down listening to favourite tunes and\u00a0sunglasses and summer dresses and a light tan; mum and learning to ride a bike and the endless school summer holidays and winters with White Fang and Secret Seven adventures.\u00a0 Life with purpose; relaxing and free.<\/p>\n<p>Right from the start she&#8217;d thought of this place as her shelter.\u00a0\u00a0How she&#8217;d needed the peace and quiet.\u00a0 She liked Sally and Alice and had come to enjoy their gentle company over the months.\u00a0 She\u2019d never felt like a stranger and it was Sally&#8217;s special gift.\u00a0 People always\u00a0left feeling better; talking, listening, being.\u00a0 And Alice, lovely Alice, baked the best cakes in the world!<\/p>\n<p>Her thoughts were interrupted\u00a0as colourful bags burst through the door and like breaking glass the laughter of shopping girls shattered the calm of the place. But it wasn\u2019t disturbing, rather it was refreshingly curious. She admitted a renewed sense of nosiness and that was a good thing; an indicator that her mood was lifting.\u00a0Who couldn\u2019t be drawn into their world of fun and hope. Well that\u2019s what it appeared.\u00a0 At once she was envious of their knack of happiness.\u00a0\u00a0And wondered if she could catch it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier.
