{"id":1339,"date":"2012-09-09T13:19:37","date_gmt":"2012-09-09T12:19:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/?p=1339"},"modified":"2012-10-20T13:37:19","modified_gmt":"2012-10-20T12:37:19","slug":"perception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/?p=1339","title":{"rendered":"perception"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><a href=\"http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/boats.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-1477\" title=\"boats\" src=\"http:\/\/gollygoshcafe.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/boats.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"192\" height=\"131\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8216;If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is; Infinite.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>For the man has closed himself up, till he sees all things thro&#8217; narrow chinks of his cavern&#8217; ~ William Blake<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When the time came Maggie was more than happy to be stepping down from the bus and waving thanks to the cheery driver as he reversed and drove off.\u00a0 This shopping trip had lasted a liftetime and Jan&#8217;s effervescence and indecision left Maggie weary of stumulus, of vibrancy and zingy Jan-like things!<\/p>\n<p>Too many choices.\u00a0 Too little time.\u00a0 Too much chat.\u00a0 Too little planning.\u00a0 Not enough focus on the clock <em>quite frankly.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But she wasn&#8217;t cross, just tired, and a smile touched her\u00a0lips as\u00a0she observed her best friend.\u00a0 Her practiced posture and obligatory high heels stubbornly uncompromised despite being on her feet all day and she wondered how on earth she did it. There really was no stopping her. Maggie had always admired her, always a little in awe of the intensity she displayed for life.\u00a0It appeared that every second of every day she looked for opportunities\u00a0to be happy,\u00a0choosing to embrace rather than doubt or caution, thankful for the abundant gifts and relishing the challenges.\u00a0 Harmonious and happy.\u00a0 Simply Jan.<\/p>\n<p>She\u00a0wished she was more like her.<\/p>\n<p>But Jan was also insightful and knew she\u2019d pushed Maggie\u2019s patience beyond the limit today &#8230;\u00a0procrastination and girlie nonsense, excitement and the desire to have fun. And she knew, absolutely without doubt, that the new champagne bar suggestion had been the last straw!\u00a0\u00a0Maggie was patient but she was no walkover.\u00a0 Indeed she was more than capable of surprising people and shattering their perceptions. Maggie: smart, honest, beautiful,\u00a0grounded, with a steely determination for justice.\u00a0\u00a0An enigma\u00a0that captured attention.\u00a0 She was the friend you&#8217;d want most in your life and on your side.<\/p>\n<p>She wished she was more like her.<\/p>\n<p>The morning sunshine had long since gone, predictably replaced by dark clouds rolling in across the sea and in the\u00a0distance\u00a0they could see boats bobbing in the water, their sails rippling.\u00a0 No wonder the natives were obsessed with the weather.\u00a0 The wind\u00a0was gathering\u00a0speed as they walked briskly towards the high street and in unison they buttoned jackets and pulled up collars.\u00a0 The bright bags flapped and struggled for freedom.<\/p>\n<p>The end of another summer.<\/p>\n<p><em>When are you going to be able to wear all this &#8230; stuff?!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jan made a funny face and stuck out her tongue. <em>Holidays need new things Maggie!\u00a0 If you weren&#8217;t so stubborn you could still come.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As they headed for Golly Gosh, Maggie played out the scenario in her head.\u00a0 It would be how it always is.<\/p>\n<p>The room would light up because, suddenly, Jan had arrived and everyone loved her.\u00a0 Maggie would order while Jan showed off every item of clothing with an exaggerated pose then a discussion on the topic of holidays and crash diets would ensue. Her excitement would ignite everyone else\u2019s and there would be requests for more drinks and probably extra helpings of Alice\u2019s <em>to die for<\/em> Victoria sponge and everyone would agree that the healthy eating plan could start on Monday. They\u2019d ask Maggie if she was going too and she\u2019d make up some excuse or other to satisfy their curiosity. It was all a game and everyone knew to play it.<\/p>\n<p>After a year, the goodwill of people encouraging her to <em>get a life<\/em> was beginning to slightly irritate. Give it time they said and continued to say when they couldn\u2019t think of anything else to say.
